Cine Europa 17  culminates in Cagayan de Oro

Moviegoers from Cagayan de Oro continue to enjoy family-oriented films from this year’s Cine Europa film festival.

The 17th edition of Cine Europa comes to a close today (14 November) at Liceo de Cagayan de Oro with the screening of the German film “Scherbenpark” or Broken Glass Park directed by Bettina Blümner.

“Scherbenpark” or Broken Glass Park tells the story of how Sascha, a clever girl with the gift of gab has witnessed her stepfather Vadim kill her mother. When Sascha reads a newspaper article claiming Vadim is a sensitive man who is full of remorse, this is the last straw. But then events take an unexpected turn.

Sherbenpark was the perfect film for Cagayan de Oro as the Goethe Institut, the Cultural Institute of Germany in the Philippines, intends to highlight its partnership with Liceo de Cagayan University which was forged last year and which made Liceo the fourth official partner school of Germany.

Twenty-one films from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Italy, The Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Norway and Switzerland will be screened from 13 to 16 November.

Mr Lubomir Frebort, Political Counsellor, EU Delegation to the Philippines, will inaugurate Cine Europa in Cagayan de Oro together with Cagayan de Oro Mayor Oscar Moreno and Mr Mariano Lerin of Liceo de Cagayan University.

Movie goers from CDO have reached close to 9000 since 2012. Last year, Cine Europa 16 reached 36,400 people across the Philippines.

This 17th edition of the film festival is unique in several ways. For the first time Cine Europa will be seen in nine cities over the Philippine archipelago- Manila, Baguio, Iloilo, Cebu, Leyte, Tacloban, Davao, Zamboanga and Cagayan De Oro.
